Pop-Up Community Art Show To Benefit The Homeless
I am participating in Unity at the Bemis art show in SODO will run during the Seattle Art Fair and support Facing Homelessness.
Fri Aug 4, noon–8 pm • Sat Aug 5, noon–8 pm • Sun Aug 6, noon–6 pm
United Creations, a Green Lake-area branding and digital marketing agency, is pleased to announce “Unity at the Bemis,” an art show at the Bemis Building, across from the Seattle Art Fair, to benefit people experiencing homelessness. More than 50 Pacific Northwest artists will be showing their work, and contributing 50% of their proceeds to Facing Homelessness, a local direct-action non-profit.
“We set out to create an art event as a culture-building project, something we’ve done for many years,” said Rich Lancaster, CEO of United Creations, the show’s producer. “But what has evolved is a kind of pop-up community of people and organizations that resonate deeply with this project, people who feel that homelessness can best be helped by direct community action, especially when supported by the arts.”
Musicians from the Northwest Symphony Orchestra have volunteered to entertain at the event and will be playing at various times throughout the 3-day show. Running concurrently with the Seattle Art Fair, which will be just over a block away at CenturyLink Convention Center, Unity at the Bemis will focus on accessible art, with a broad range of work from local Northwest artists. The juried show is being curated by Diane Venti of Alki Arts, who has a long-standing commitment to Northwest art and artists. The Bemis Art Committee, made up of resident artists in the 150,000-square foot former bag manufacturing facility, have volunteered to provide logistical support for the duration of the event, opening their studios for various activities. The show’s sponsors include Art Wolfe, Tito’s Vodka, Coldwell Banker Bain’s Roger Morris, Project Bionic, and Letterpress Distilling. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, with all proceeds going directly to Facing Homelessness. The goal of the show is to raise $25,000 for the organizations projects, such as Just Say Hello and The Block Project.
